From what I understand, unless you’ve read the previous books, it’s a waste of time to jump in at the end of the story. I’ve got a friend lending me the previous books so I’m thinking I’ll wait on this one.
if you’ve seen the movies and become somewhat familiar with the characters and what is going on in Harry Potter’s world, I’ve heard that you may miss some nuances, but you don’t necessarily need to go back and plow through the other books, especially since this is the last book in the series and all issues are supposedly resolved.
I have read all the books and am in the process of reading the last book now. I can say that if you have seen the movies and then go read the last book you will miss some crucial info that ties into the 7th and final book. And given the fact that movie 3 and 5 left chunks of the story out, I really don’t think that book 7 will be the easiest read. J.K. has always said that she had the ending written when Harry Potter was first created.
