I’m sure that everyone knows how I feel about BET. If you’re not sure, here’s a brief synopsis:
BET is the worst channel on television.
Apparently, BET has come to terms with this and has all but given up on the idea of even looking like a channel that wasn’t programmed by nitwits. Actually the more I think about it, apparently, BET seems as though it is actively attempting to destroy any modicum of positive black imagery and destroy the black public image…
What’s BET trying to prove?
Case in point, HOT GHETTO MESS . What the hell, BET? What the hell? I don’t normally watch BET, but while hanging with my cousins, I happened to look up and catch the commercial or the Hot Ghetto Mess commercial and threw up a little in my mouth.
No, BET. You got to do better.
It’s like BET looked at VH1’s success with Flava of Love and said hey why not just toss out all of the bullshit and get straight to the shuckin’ and jivin’. Let’s just toss out all plot and jump straight into the coonin’ niggas! SHOOOOWTIIIIME! All of this is going to be done under the pretense of “We Got To Do Better”.
So basically, what BET is doing is offering people the chance to get on TV by acting as ignorant as possible. How exactly is this going to help us to “do better”? This is just another thinly veiled attempt by BET to generate content for free by exploiting the African American community.
This isn’t the first time, it won’t be the last.
BET did the same thing with the violent culture of gangsta rap by playing gangsta rap videos all day. They’ve offered anyone with a criminal record and a microphone a chance at infamy through rap videos. They put this lifestyle in front of our children. This lifestyle of killing our brothers and degrading our women to the point of massive rifts in the black community, then they look all confused when the black community is swallowed up by a culture of violence and prison mentalities. The blood is on your hands BET.
I’m done with you BET. At this point, I’m beginning to wonder if BET has been secretly purchased by the KKK or something. This just doesn’t make sense! Is BET entertainment for black people or blacks entertaining?!?! This damn channel is starting to look like a minstrel show!
What we will see is more of this. Just like BET took a small number of gansta rappers and killed hip-hop, it will take this Hot Ghetto Mess show and kill what’s left of the black image. We’ve got Barak Obama running to be the first black president and BET is doing all they can to make us look like a bunch of gold toothed monkeys. I’m tired of playing with ya’ll BET.
Alright readers, time to chime in how do you feel about this obvious betrayal by this our Black Entertainment Television? Or even better, go to the MySpace page or the BET community forums or write a letter to BET and voice your compliant. Enough is enough people.

Man, it really has been a minute since I’ve watched BET! And from the description above, not much has changed. However, the deep dark secret is that I really can’t blame BET. In the end, BET is not a channel designed to display all upper- and middle-class telegenic black people “doing things with their lives” in their programming. BET is, well, an entertainment-focused business.
Trust me, if a vast majority of black people who watch BET felt as if the programming was inappropriate and decided not to watch, Viacom would have changed its programming a long time ago. Unfortunately, people make a lot of sound and fury about BET, but nothing really happens. I’ve seen countless BET-watchers bemoan the awful programming, yet they continue to watch it in large numbers. And it cuts across all ages, all levels of education, etc.
I thought shows like Flavor of Love, Real World are crap concentrate–basically I think people watch because of the voyeuristic nature it awakens in people. People like to watch to find out who’s fucking/fighting/playing who. I choose not to watch it, but I have many friends who TiVo it and watch religiously.
Advertisers know people love these shows. Viacom knows that too, so when BET makes all the copy-cat niche programming for an African-American audience, it can succeed because it knows although black people complain, they watch anyway like it’s a bad accident (just like all other races do). It’s cheap, cash cow seedy TV–America at its finest!

I am totally at lost for words. I agree with you 100% Goodwin. And to the other guy who left the comment, I understand what your saying about BET just being an entertainment network & how were going to watch it anyway because, your right, it speaks to our hidden filthy desires of people doing what we want to do in the secret chambers of our minds. But since BET is watched by millions of viewers it DOES have some responsibility for the content it portrays of us in. Just as Caucasian’s started the original minstrel shows, then we did it (and out did them in their own shit, What better way for someone to act like a nigga then a real nigga. ” See REAL nigga’s and bitches get down”).
Just as Caucasin’s started calling us niggers we took over with nigga,Just as Caucasians were the first to call us “wenches, huzzies, and heffiers (all short names for animals) we took over that. Now black women call their girlfriends huzzies for fun and scream it at their daughters when their mad at them. The word bitch was once used as an insult now black women use it amongst themselves like its empowering. like: “I’m a down ass bitch”, or “I’m that bitch with money”, or simply, “What’s up bitch?” We copy everything the European does. From him being the leading race with the most homosexual men to us leading the race with the most homosexual DL men.
It was a point in time where you would never find a gay man in the black community & if you did he wasn’t flaunting it. The European goes on killing sprees, now we go on killing sprees (the DC sniper). It has always been joked in the black community that a black person will out do a person in their own shit. It’s true. Were a lively people. We have so much passion and energy in us we go overboard–even if it is to counter-productive.
If we were to truly study the Europeans early beginnings to the caves of the Caucuses Mountains up until now, we will see he is an animal,(which he also loves to fuck. Just google ‘farm sex’ & you will see him teaching his daughters how to truly be a whore.) with a thirst for blood (vampirism, raw meat consumption, cannibalism-Jeffrey Dahmer), sex, death (lynchings, war, death penalty) & souls (something he obviously does not have, because only the ’souless’ can do what he has done upon the planet),who has been very clever at hidding his true barbaric identity and yet in still he manages to get the world to copy his behaviors through media outlets (bet, comedy central, HBO,etc.) while cleverly convincing you it was your idea, all in the name of entertainment. Yes, I guess he is “enter tameing you”. He is a master illusionist who has mastered the unconsciousness of the ego. And we are his domesticated docile pets that he fucks when he wants, just like the dog is his best friend (hmm..I wonder where that saying came from?) Black people need to stop copying everything the European does and then calling it entertainment or recreational. I guess it is “enter tame ing” as we “wreck creation”. I mean come on, were already fucking our own children like the European taught us too (child molestation is on the rise amongst black families and it’s no longer JUST MEN! The prisons are over crowded with sex offenders and the victimizers are getting younger and younger & blacker and blacker as they fuck someone they see as weaker than them the way they were fucked by somebody stronger than them.)Do we really want to continue copying EVERYTHING the European does. Do black men really want to start sticking their penises (that the seed of life flows through)into dogs, horses and other animals while black women & their daughters lay down own their bellies with their assess in the air to be fucked doggy style by a dog the way the European woman is subtley trying to teach us? In your minds you can say hell no, but in reality this is the direction black people are headed in if we continue to scream the words “entertainment” for everything our so-called “Black Entertainment Television’s” bombard us with as they run to copy off the European stations for ratings. I guess the future of our black babies mean nothing too us if we get to have our laughs now.
First off I would like to admit, some of the shows on BET are a little corny and stupid. But the comments you made about BET were wrong. The fact is that this is how black americans act, I hate when fake ass black people try to sugar cote realilty. Reality is that most black people are angry and violent, look at all we have to go through just to live on this earth. We dont have any channels but BET, so why talk so bad about them. I dont want my kids to just watch these wack little shows with white children. I dont want them to be confused like you about who they really are, maybe they will be better and comfortable knowing diffrent aspects of life and races. obvisiouly White folks have turned you against your own kind, what a shame? Look most white people wish that they were black, they watch BET too just like we do, fuck all what you said, but i do respect your beliefs.
