Anyone else heard that Nas is titling his new album Nigga? Has this nigga lost his mind?
Imagine how awkward that release date will be:
- Seeing Nigga in the Circuit City new releases?
- White kids rolling into their local Best Buy to pick up the new Nigga album?
- Wal-Mart probably won’t even touch it.
- Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson will lose their collective minds.
I’m sure he’s trying to make a statement. I assume he’s trying to get people talking. I also recognize that it’s not written in stone, yet. But I wonder how far the creative envelope can be pushed before it becomes just reckless and self destructive.
BrilliantBrownites, sound off. I want to know what you’re thinking… I need some comments on this one.

Anyone else heard that Nas is titling his new album Nigga? Has this nigga lost his mind? LOL…
Its gonna get people talking. I find myself cringing when I use it nowadays…
cool. go, my nigga.
Why not? White kids already buy CDs in which music artist uses the word nigga liberally. So whats the difference if he names his album “Nigga”. Whats so bad? In fact how appropriate in this current social climate to name his album such. Not only do I hope that he names his album “Nigga” I’ll be the first to buy it. Well only if he spits hot fire.
Oh and I know you guys are busy, but can you guys post more often, you guys are killing me.
Huh?
I think the outrage, if there will be any, will probably be way late. I figure this is a natural progression. I’m actually kinda shocked that there hasn’t been an artist with a “Nigga” album already. I’d also be curious what message he’s trying to convey because the whole N-word controversy is about a billion years old now, and has been fought to a stalemate.
Over on Wikipedia there’s talk that Nas will actually name the album ‘NiggER’, but I’m not sure.
Oh how soon we forget peoples…
-NWA released an album May 30, 1991 entitled “Niggaz4life”
-Dick Gregory autobio that was written back in 1990 was entitled, “Nigger”
-Richard Pryor released an audio stand-up entitled, “This Nigger is Crazy!”
I think that, as in any type of media, Nas’ album title should be considered in the context of his subject matter, it may be appropriate, i haven’t heard it yet, but for the people taking it personal or as if he doing something grounbreaking…”Slow down champ, sit this round out”
