Okay, so it’s only a series of 10second snippets. But if this is any indicator, this is gonna be a hot album. I was already going to buy this on release date (as part of my plan to get rid of 50cent once and for all), but now I’m pretty sure that this album will be in heavy rotation once I get it in the CD changer.

Fellas,
Would love to see an article/ hear an opinion on the propsed law banning sagging pants/exposed bra straps in Atlanta. Here are a few links:

pretty sure i’ll have this up on the site within a week or two, they already paid Kanye before the album drop, so spending money on a CD when you don’t have to doesn’t make too much sense to me, but if you think “one vote CAN make a difference”, be my guest, but for the lurkers and the regulars on the site, don’t fret, save your $13.99, it’ll be here in a matter of time.

Sure Kanye may have already been paid, but that’s no reason to not purchase the work of an artist you appreciate. The sales numbers of this upcoming album may not affect Kanye’s current cash flow, but they will factor in when record execs are considering Kanye’s future albums. If no other form of voting works, voting with your dollar is the single most effective tool we have in our capitalistic democracy.
I like ‘Ye, but as a part of the conundrum of being in a capitalistic society is spending your money wisely in a free market era where everyone can offer you something. So, if you can get it for free, then why spend your quote “hard-earned dollar” on such a menial purchase? Record execs already have predictors of what Kanye is going to sale, they count on people to have developed some sort of devotion to an artist that translates into buying albums, concert tickets, etc. I just don’t fall into that category. Buying CDs, especially new releases, have become so extraneous with the advent of mp3 players and digital downloading. There are alot of people who act as president of artists’ fan clubs and turn their nose up at people who download their fav artist music, which is hilarious to me.
(Side Note: This is a good discussion, who’d have thought that a YouTube video would take the conversation in this direction!)
Purchasing a product that you use is hardly extraneous. The fact of that matter is that illegal downloads are by definition the wrong way to do things. Sure, everyone does it, so we tend to think of it as a lesser crime (much like we do jaywalking), but the fact remains that it is not the right way and to turn your nose up at people who chose to purchase their music is even more hilarious.
Somebody has to pay otherwise there’d be no music for you and I to download! If you don’t care, that’s fine. Everyone has the right to not care whether Kanye West or Outkast or Common or any other artist ever puts out another album. You just have to understand that by abstaining from the vote with your dollar is as good as a vote against in the eyes of the record company bean counters.
And while I can’t and don’t condemn anyone for downloading music (because I do it too) I don’t think that people who chose to get their media via more conventional methods are foolish. It’s not about a “devotion to an artist” it’s about paying for something that you use, enjoy and ensuring that you hear more of it in the future.
