“Project” albums tend to be a but more miss than hit, but you get the occasional gem here and there; for example, last year’s “P and the Yessirs”, ?uestlove’s take on what he thought Pharrell’s “In My Mind” should have been…
It looks like another gem is in the works, manifested in the form of Zo! and Phonte from Little Brother’s collaborative effort to be entitled, “Zo! and Tigallo Love the 80’s!”. From the 1st few songs, it looks like it will be a hip-hop versions of popular songs from the 1980’s such as Human Nature’s “Human” and many others.
I’ve listened to the three available songs so far and I’m already nominating it for Best Album of 2008. There’s also a catch, there will only be 2500 copies pressed WORLDWIDE and once these original prints are gone, they’re gone. Fortunately, in this wonderful age of the internet, nothing is ever completely unavailable.
For those who will not be able to get a copy of the album, which I suggest you do if you are fortunate to be in an area that will carry it, I will keep a running list of the songs here on your friendly, neighborhood brilliantbrown.com! Sit back, listen, and pretend its 1985 again!
