Lip syncing used to be cool… way back in the 80s. Who remembers the show Puttin’ on the Hits? I do. It was like American Idol, but without even the pretention of talent. I remember back when I was in the 2nd grade or so, we staged a Puttin’ on the Hits at my elementary school and my brother and I lip synced Bobby Brown’s My Prerogative. Ah, good times those were.
Now it’s one thing for talentless amateurs of the 80s and elementary schoolers to lip sync for fun, but it’s a completely different thing when professional musical performers do it. Someone is paying to see you perform live. If they wanted to hear the album, they’d have saved the cost of admission and just bought the $15 CD. I didn’t even know performers still did that whole lip syncing thing! I thought that went out of vogue with Milli Vanilli. I most definitely never thought that a rapper would be caught lip syncing. Yet here I am, hearing about 50Cent’s lip sync malfunction at the BET Awards!
I mean come on, all you have to do is know the words to your own song! Is that too much to ask Mr. Cent? That’s Ashley Simpson territory there and I thought 50 was so much harder than she ever was. I mean, she ain’t been shot or nothing!
Video of 50’s foible after the jump, don’t miss the Vitamin Water shout out at the end! Wait, what? Vitamin water? That’s not very gangsta Mr. Cent… and I know gangsta.

I feel the exact same way about Lip syncing, I could’ve just bought the cd for christs sake!! lol
I remember ‘Puttin on the Hits’. Me and some dudes on the block was destined to be on there doing the Fat Boys, those were the days.
I agree with the concert view. If your too tired to perform it live then just don’t; same thing with rappers and these new singers stop getting the audience to sing it for you, that mess wears thin.
