I don’t know whether to be excited about this or horrified. On one hand, Black Panther (arguably one of the oldest and best black superheroes) is getting an animated series! YES! On the other hand, it’s going to be on BET (arguably the worst thing to happen to black culture since Jim Crow). NO! I hate BET so much that I removed it from the auto-program on my TV. I’ve never been so torn in all of my life.
According to Variety:
Marvel Comics has signed a deal to turn one of its superheroes, the Black Panther, into a primetime animated series for BET, starting early next year.
BET made the announcement at its upfront presentation in New York as the highlight of a batch of new series being readied for the 2008-09 season, under the supervision of Reginald Hudlin, president of entertainment for BET.
This is going to be either very, very good or very, very bad. I guess we’ll have to wait and see! For more info, check out: BET cages ‘Black Panther’ - Entertainment News, TV News, Media - Variety

I’m sure that everyone knows how I feel about BET. If you’re not sure, here’s a brief synopsis:
BET is the worst channel on television.
Apparently, BET has come to terms with this and has all but given up on the idea of even looking like a channel that wasn’t programmed by nitwits. Actually the more I think about it, apparently, BET seems as though it is actively attempting to destroy any modicum of positive black imagery and destroy the black public image…

For those of you who aren’t too old to be watching cartoons, check this show out. I’m always complaining that there isn’t enough positive black programming on television, so I’m encouraging everyone to support this show and check it out. If you’re too grown to watch a cartoon, then sit your kids in front of it. But I can guarantee that you’ll find yourself watching, too.
This show has good music. The kind of music that I’d listen to in my car. André 3000 is in charge, what did you expect? Add that to the fact that there’s a positive black role model and heartwarming subject matter. This show is a certified winner. I cant’ say anymore, just watch it! If you’ve seen an episode or two, let us know what you think!
Friday Nights @ 8p on the Cartoon Network.
